Softaware QA

Friday October 10, 2008

Software Quality Assurance is an often misunderstood part of the software development process. While Software QA includes Software Testing, it is a process that goes well beyond testing.

Resume Example - Project Manager

Wednesday October 8, 2008

I came across this great example of a technical Project Manager resume and thought I would share it. The resume showcases the candidate's technical and project management skills. Almost as important, it is well organized and well written to showcase the professional skills this candidate can bring to the organization.

Here are some other great resume examples:

EBay to Lay Off 1000+ Employees

Monday October 6, 2008

Ebay announced today that their 3rd quarter results will be lower than expected, and they will be laying off over 1,000 employees. They will also be letting go hundreds of contingent staff (temporary or contract workers) and reducing the number of open positions they are hiring for. The San Jose based company also announced their plans to acquire online payments business Bill Me Later (for $820 million in cash and $125 million in options) and Danish classifieds specialist Den Bla Avis and vehicle site BilBasen (for $390 million in cash).

Whether you are interviewing for a new position, thinking about making a career change, or cruising along in your current career, it pays to stay on top of industry news. Industry publications keep you up to date on what technologies are hot, who's who in the industry, and other important trends. They also let you know about relevant job fairs and often list specific openings that are relevant to your interests. Amazon.com Company Profile

Monday September 29, 2008

Amazon.com is a company that has always fascinated me. They seem to constantly develop new ways of getting me to spend money online, with things like customer reviews, offers to buy things together at a discount and their "customers that purchased this also purchased..." information. As a company, Amazon.com is a clever combination of marketing genius and technical complexity! My personal feeling is that Amazon.com really allowed e-commerce to become a comfortable way for many of us to make purchases online. In the years that I have been a customer, I have never noticed any technical glitches or down-time, which is amazing considering the volume of orders that they process.

Online Degrees

Saturday September 13, 2008

There are several technical degree programs that are offered 100% online. This is such a great option for those that don't want to relocate to attend college or those that need to work full time and require as much flexibility and convenience as possible. The programs listed below offer undergarduate (bachelors) as well as gradualte level (masters) degrees. Each includes a link to the online learning section of the university's website where you can request more information and learn about the different courses and services offered.

Steve Jobs Obituary Mistakenly Published

Thursday August 28, 2008

A huge technical boo-boo caused news outlet Bloomberg to mistakenly send an incomplete obituary for Apple CEO Steve Jobs over the wire on Wednesday afternoon. While it was retracted quite quickly, it caused a huge buzz in the industry. A major source of concern for Apple fans and shareholders alike has been Jobs health issues over the past decade. The Apple CEO successfully battled pancreatic cancer a few years ago. His ultra-thin physique at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, 2008 led some bloggers and company critics to speculate that he was ill again.

Great Job Referral Site

Monday August 18, 2008

I have been checking out a fairly new job referral site, called BlueChipExpert. Its an interesting combination of LinkedIn, social networking, and job placement agency. You can find jobs on there, refer friends, invite them to join the website and earn fees as well, all at the same time. I am still checking it out, so if you use the site, or have used it in the past, please email me or leave a comment to let me know what your experience is. Enjoy!
